Safety of Our Students, Teachers, and Staff
These are difficult and unprecedented times. Under the current California Department of Health guidelines, all of our children began the 2020-2021 school year online. However, we want to ensure that our schools are ready to bring everyone back safely when the State allows IUSD students to return.
My number one priority will be to ensure we examine our procedures to ensure safety in the classrooms and work with local health agencies to follow guidelines and execute best practices. We must be vigilant and continuously monitor our procedures in order to ensure the health of all of our children, teachers, and staff. Imagine the day when we can be in the classrooms or go to a high school football game again! We will get there soon...and we will do so safely.
IUSD has some of the best schools in the nation, and I will work to maintain our high academic excellence. During the period that we are online, we must ensure that we continuously evaluate both the recommended curriculum from Educational Services for Hybrid families as well as the Florida Virtual Academy for our IVA students.
Our children are the future and our greatest assets. We must strive to give them the best education possible. That's why many of us moved to Irvine.
In terms of State funding IUSD is one of the lowest funded Districts in California. With the current economic crisis, we have to evaluate current budgets to ensure our teachers have the tools necessary to educate our children. We must fund programs such as Special Education, Free and Reduced Meals, as well as necessary technologies for our online students to thrive at home.
As a long-time Vista Verde Foundation Board Member I've been heavily involved in fundraising to help close financial gaps and purchase items not necessarily within the District's budgets. As an IUSD Finance Committee Member, I understand the District's financial challenges and will work hard to make sure our teachers and students are fully supported for success.
